Southern Empire is an Australian progressive rock band formed in 2015 by Sean Timms, keyboardist and founding member of the band Unitopia. After the latter's dissolution in 2014, Timms recruited Danny Lopresto (vocals, guitar), Cam Blokland (guitar), Jez Martin (bass) and Brody Green (drums) to form Southern Empire.
The band released their self-titled debut album in 2016, which was well received by critics and fans alike. The album is described as a blend of traditional progressive rock and more modern sounds, with influences from bands such as Transatlantic and The Tangent.
In 2018, Southern Empire released their second album, "Civilisation", considered their best production to date, including an epic track, 'Crossroads', lasting over 30 minutes.
In 2022, Danny Lopresto left the band to concentrate on his other musical projects. Southern Empire recruited singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer Shaun Holton to replace him. The band released its third album, "Another World", in September 2023, which saw the music evolve towards a rather classic melodic Hard Rock sound.
