Led by virtuoso guitarist and vocalist Mattias "IA" Eklundh, Freak Kitchen surprised the rock world right from the start with their explosive blend of metal, funk, jazz and psychedelic elements.
In 1992, Eklundh joined forces with bassist Christer Örtefors and drummer Björn Fryklund to found Freak Kitchen. The band's musical style reflects the diversity of their influences, blending elements of progressive metal, jazz fusion, rock and funk. Eklundh's guitar playing blends technical genius with a deep understanding of melody and harmony. His solos are often characterized by unconventional phrasing and a sense of improvisation that has earned him a reputation as a guitar virtuoso. Freak Kitchen's songwriting is equally impressive, incorporating catchy melodies, wacky lyrics and a touch of humor.
Over the past three decades, Freak Kitchen have released nine studio albums, each illustrating their musical evolution. Their first album, "Freak Kitchen", released in 1995, established their signature sound and was well received by critics. Subsequent albums, such as "Spanking Hour", "Dead Soul Men" and "Move", reinforced their reputation as an innovative and captivating band in Progressive Rock. The band has been quiet since 2018 and the release of "Confusion To The Enemy", but there's no indication that they've ceased to exist.
