Edguy is a German power metal band formed in 1992 in Fulda, Germany. The band was founded by singer Tobias Sammet, then aged just 14.

The band's original line-up included Tobias Sammet on vocals, Jens Ludwig and Dirk Sauer on guitars, Tobias "Eggi" Exxel on bass and Dominik Storch on drums. Together, they began to create their own music, combining elements of traditional heavy metal with influences from power metal and hard rock.

In 1995, Edguy released their first studio album, entitled "Savage Poetry". However, it was with their second album, "Vain Glory Opera" (1998), that the band began to make a name for themselves on the metal scene. The album received critical acclaim and established Edguy as one of power metal's new hopefuls.

Over the years, Edguy continued to release successful albums such as "Theater of Salvation" (1999), "Mandrake" (2001) and "Hellfire Club" (2004). Their songs were often characterized by catchy melodies, catchy choruses and Tobias Sammet's powerful vocal performance.

Parallel to his career with Edguy, Tobias Sammet also formed the side project Avantasia in 1999, a symphonic metal project featuring various guest vocalists and exploring fantasy and adventure themes through concept albums.

Over the years, Edguy has continued to release critically acclaimed albums such as "Rocket Ride" (2006), "Tinnitus Sanctus" (2008) and "Space Police: Defenders of the Crown" (2014), its latest album to date. The band has also toured extensively around the world, in Latin America and Europe.

In March 2020, Tobias Sammet announced on his Facebook page that Edguy was on hiatus to give priority to his other project, Avantasia.
