In 1984, in the German city of Hamburg, a group of passionate musicians came together with the shared vision of revolutionizing Metal. Founding members Kai Hansen (guitar/vocals) and Michael Weikath (guitar) laid the foundations for Helloween, joined by Markus Grosskopf (bass) and Ingo Schwichtenberg (drums). Their first albums, such as "Walls of Jericho" (1985) and "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I" (1987), established their reputation as an energetic, melodic speed metal band.
It was with "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II" (1988) that Helloween's career took off, with the anthemic hit "I Want Out". This album showcases the band's songwriting, musical technique and the vocal prowess of new frontman Michael Kiske. The band's popularity soared and they embarked on a series of successful world tours, consolidating their status as power metal pioneers.
After the release of "Pink Bubbles Go Ape" (1991) and "Chameleon" (1993), Helloween faced changes in personnel and musical direction. Kai Hansen left the band, while Roland Grapow and Uli Kusch joined. The albums "Master of the Rings" (1994) and "The Time of the Oath" (1996) marked a return to their power metal roots, blending speed and melody.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Helloween released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including "Better Than Raw" (1998) and "The Dark Ride" (2000), reflecting the band's continued growth and experimentation, while retaining their signature sound. They have consolidated their reputation as one of the most influential bands in the power metal genre.
In 2005, the original Helloween line-up reunited for a world tour, resulting in the live album and DVD "Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy" (2007). The reunion inspired a creative resurgence, leading to the release of the widely acclaimed "Gambling with the Devil" (2007) and "7 Sinners" (2010). As the 2010s dawned, the band continued to release successful albums, including "Straight Out of Hell" (2013) and "My God-Given Right" (2015).
In 2016, Helloween embarked on the Pumpkins United world tour, during which former and current members performed together. The tour was greeted with great enthusiasm by fans around the world. This collaboration led to the creation of a long-awaited album, "Helloween" (2021), which was particularly well received by critics.
