TORPEDO - 27.10.2023
Amon Amarth was formed in 1992 in Tumba, Sweden, by guitarist Olavi Mikkonen and singer Johan Hegg. They are joined by guitarist Anders Hansson, bassist Ted Lundström and drummer Nico Mehra.

Amon Amarth recorded their first demo in 1993, "Thor Arise", which showcased their melodic death metal beginnings, influenced by bands like Entombed and Dismember.

In 1996, the band signed with Pulverised Records and released their debut album, "Once Sent from the Golden Hall". The album received positive reviews and established Amon Amarth as a rising force on the melodic death metal scene.

Amon Amarth released their second album, "The Avenger", in 1998. The album further strengthens the Viking-inspired lyrical themes and features a heavier, more refined sound. The band signed with Metal Blade Records two years later and released their third album, "The Crusher", to critical acclaim and an international fan base.

Amon Amarth refined their Viking Metal with albums such as "Versus the World" (2002), "Fate of Norns" (2004) and "With Oden on Our Side" in 2006, which included some of their most iconic songs, such as 'Cry of the Black Birds' and 'Runes to My Memory'.

2008 saw the release of "Twilight of the Thunder God", a major commercial success and a benchmark for the band, with its eponymous song becoming the band's most-listened-to track.

Amon Amarth continued to build on this success, with a series of releases including "Deceiver of the Gods" (2013), "Berserker" (2019), which was less direct and more progressive, and their latest album to date, "The Great Heathen Army" (2022), which found a good balance between brute force and epic melodies.

To date, the band has never really disappointed, and always delivered top-flight Viking Metal.
