Hailing from the Tunisian coastal town of Ezzahra, Myrath are not your average metal band. Founded in 2001 by Malek Ben Arbia, their music is a blend of power metal and progressive music infused with Middle Eastern sounds.
Malek, joined by his childhood friends Fahmi Chakroun (drums) and Oualid Issaoui (guitar), initially played blues and metal covers. However, their musical aspirations soon led them towards the creation of original music. During this period, they experimented with different sounds and gradually integrated their culture into their compositions. In 2003, Elyes Bouchoucha (keyboards and vocals) joined the group, solidifying the line-up. They ped the name X-Tazy and adopted the name Myrath.
Myrath's first major breakthrough came in 2006. They shared the stage with progressive metal veterans Adagio and their keyboardist Kevin Codfert. Codfert, impressed by their talent and unique sound, became their mentor and producer.
The release of their debut album, 'Hope', in 2007, was the first step on the road to stardom. The album received critical acclaim and surprised Metal audiences with its blend of progressive and exotic melodies, featuring traditional Arabic instruments.
Myrath continued to build on this success with a series of excellent albums, including 'Tales of the Sands' (2011), 'Legacy' (2016) and above all 'Shehili' in 2019, an album combining progressive and melodic metal, characterised by extraordinary melodic power combined with ever more integrated traditional oriental elements.
The release of their next album, "Karma", was postponed for several months due to a theft of the files at the end of the mixing process, causing the album to be massively distributed on pirate platforms from September 2023. It was finally released the following year, and featured more traditional melodic metal.
