Pearl Jam is an American alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. The band is made up of singer Eddie Vedder, guitarist Stone Gossard, guitarist Mike McCready, bassist Jeff Ament and drummer Matt Cameron.
Pearl Jam's story began when Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, former members of the band Mother Love Bone, recruited guitarist Mike McCready. They soon met singer Eddie Vedder, who was recording vocal demos. Impressed by his voice, they invited him to join the band, which was later renamed Pearl Jam.
In 1991, Pearl Jam signed a contract with Epic Records and released their first studio album, "Ten". The album was a huge commercial success, propelled by singles such as 'Alive', 'Even Flow' and 'Jeremy'. It received critical acclaim and quickly became one of the best-selling albums of the decade. Eddie Vedder's powerful, emotional vocals, combined with the catchy guitar riffs of Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, created a distinctive sound that attracted a devoted fan base.
Over the next few years, Pearl Jam continued to release good albums, exploring different styles and themes. "Vs." (1993), "Vitalogy" (1994) and "No Code" (1996) consolidated their status as leaders of the alternative scene. The band is also known for its political and social commitment, tackling issues such as the environment, social inequality and human rights.
In the mid-1990s, Pearl Jam became one of the leading lights of the grunge movement, alongside other Seattle bands such as Nirvana and Soundgarden. However, the band quickly became wary of fame and media attention, refusing to shoot music videos and actively opposing the music industry. Despite this, Pearl Jam remain hugely popular and continue to fill stadiums around the world on their tours.
Over the years, Pearl Jam have released several albums with varying degrees of success, including "Yield" (1998), "Binaural" (2000), "Riot Act" (2002), "Pearl Jam" (2006), "Backspacer" (2009), "Lightning Bolt" (2013) and "Gigaton" (2020).
Pearl Jam were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, in recognition of their impact on rock music. The band continues to evolve and experiment, remaining true to their authentic Rock music and commitment to social causes.

DID YOU KNOW?
Before becoming Pearl Jam, the band was originally known as Mookie Blaylock, in reference to the NBA basketball player.
The name Pearl Jam was chosen after the band received a list of potential names from a label executive. They finally chose "Pearl" because of its symbolic meaning and "Jam" to represent their improvisational musical style.
The band launched their own label, Monkeywrench Records, in 2009, to gain greater control over their music and releases.
In 2000, Pearl Jam organised a series of concerts in Europe called "The Binaural Tour" where they used miniature cameras to film the performances and broadcast them live on their website.
In 2001, guitarist Stone Gossard released a solo album entitled "Bayleaf". He also formed the band Brad, in which he plays guitar and sings. Jeff Ament has also released solo albums and formed other bands such as Three Fish.
Drummer Matt Cameron is also a member of the iconic rock band Soundgarden. He joined Pearl Jam as an official member in 1998, but continues to play with both bands.
