Lordi, a Finnish heavy metal band formed in Rovaniemi in 1992, is known for its unique musical style called "monster hard rock" and its theatrical stage design based on monsters. Lead singer and costume designer Mr. Lordi has given the band a distinctive identity.
The band's origins date back to 1992, when Mr. Lordi, then aged 18, combined his passion for 1980s rock and metal with his love of cinema. Studying in Rovaniemi, he finally opted for music, initially considering a solo project.
In 1997, the band took shape with the arrival of key members such as guitarist Amen, keyboardist Enary and bassist G-Stealer. In 2002, after years of hard work, Lordi signed with the BMG Finland label and released their first hit single, "Would You Love a Monsterman?
A major breakthrough came in 2006 with their Eurovision victory with "Hard Rock Hallelujah". This worldwide recognition propelled Lordi onto the international scene.
The years that followed were marked by acclaimed albums such as "The Arockalypse" (2006) and "Deadache" (2008), as well as changes in the band's line-up. Awa replaced Enary, and Ox became bassist.
Lordi then continued to release albums, including the controversial "Sexorcism" (2018). In 2019, changes in the line-up see the arrival of Hiisi to replace Ox. The band explored an innovative concept with "Killection" (2020), a fictional album imagining the band's music since the 70s.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their touring plans in 2020, but Lordi maintained its commitment to fans with a streaming concert from Rovaniemi.
In 2021, the band released "Lordiversity", a box set of 7 albums, and in November, Amen left the band after 25 years, citing continuing internal tensions.
