Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in 1995 in Helsingborg by guitarist Peter Wichers and singer Björn "Speed" Strid. They quickly recruited other members including guitarist Ola Flink, drummer Henry Ranta, keyboardist Carlos Del Olmo Holmberg and guitarist Markus Wibom.
Soilwork released their debut album, "Steelbath Suicide", in 1998. The album was well received by critics and established the band as one of the pioneers of the melodic death metal genre. Their unique style blends powerful guitar riffs, fast, technical rhythms, catchy melodies and alternating extreme and clean vocals.
Soilwork has released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Natural Born Chaos" (2002), "Stabbing the Drama" (2005). The band has succeeded in broadening its audience by exploring different facets of its music, integrating progressive and experimental influences. Their album "The Living Infinite" (2013) was notably marked by its two-disc release, with a total of 20 songs,
In 2012, Peter Wichers left the band, but this didn't stop Soilwork in its tracks. The band continued to record and release new albums such as "Verkligheten" in 2019 and "Overgivenheten" in 2022, which contained a number of inovations and hinted at great things to come.

 The name "Soilwork" was chosen by singer Björn "Speed" Strid and refers to the idea of working from scratch.
The band's first name was Inferior Breed before becoming Soilwork.
Björn "Speed" Strid is also the lead singer of symphonic metal band The Night Flight Orchestra, which explores a different musical style to Soilwork.
