""Traveller" is a good album, divided between good and average, without being too heavy."

For a few years now, Jorn Lande has been producing albums at a frantic pace and of a rather uneven quality. But this "Traveller" seems to be the first album since 2007 and its 'Unlocking The Past', to give the desire for a regular comeback on platinum. Maybe because Jorn seems here more calm and sure of himself.
The songs take their time, like 'Cancer Demon' or the inspired slow tempo of 'Make Your Engine Scream' on the bass (we think of Maiden on the solo), while avoiding the trap of useless or sterile passages. Maybe also because newcomers Trond Holter and Bernt Jansen (ex Wig Wam) bring undeniable added value to the compositions. The guitar on 'Window Maker', for example, undoubtedly saves the title from anonymity.
The riff of 'Overload', starting with a big bass, sometimes evokes 'Enter Sadman' from who you know. Solid, with a voice doubled in the octave, it opens the album without much brilliance. 'Cancer Demon' leans towards 'Holy Diver', but the soul of the title is enough to keep the attention. As for adopting it in the long term, like several titles ('Legend Man', 'Window Maker'), the doubt remains.
Then come the more solid tracks, even slightly original at the end like 'Traveller' as harsh as needed and with a spicy twin soli. Then comes the best moment of the album with 'Carry The Black' with a Candlemass version of Jorn (huge with its lighter passage and its final acceleration), a fundamentally positive and stirring 'Rev On' (this simple but heady chorus) placed in the lead tracks with its exotic and willful neighbour 'Moonsoon' and its soaring solo. The heavy 'The Man Who Was King' with its worn-out vocal intro on a delicate acoustic guitar, an explicit tribute to Ronnie James, closes the album and this beautiful series of heavily calibrated cartridges.
Something is happening on Mr. Lande's side, the album being divided between good and average, without being too heavy though. May Jorn take his time in the future before producing a new album, and may he not hesitate to push the keyboards, the audacity and the risk-taking much further. Maybe then we'll have an album worthy of the gentleman's talent. - Official website
