Of German origin, Alias Eye is a band that completely amazed me. Why? Quite simply because it has none of the aspects generally recognized as an integral part of progressive rock: no lengthening tracks, no dissonant harmonies that require a multitude of listening before understanding, no, none of that. And yet, it's good and it will please progressive rock fans, no doubt about it.

Alias Eye's trademark is the right note at the right time. By this you mean that each note, each intonation is not there to highlight a performer or demonstrate a particular talent but to serve the whole piece.

Obviously, the fact that each musician is very comfortable in his own register helps enormously to give this impression of ease and fluidity. The listener will immediately notice the warmth and feeling of a voice that I personally describe as extraordinary, as well as an impressive keyboard not of technique but of inventiveness and timeliness in his interventions. The guitarist is also characterized by a discreet presence that does not prevent some muscular interventions, all supported by a rhythmic section that makes the whole thing groovy without falling into boredom and déjà vu.

You will have understood it: Alias Eye is a band of musicians at heart, true as we love them. A song like 'Just Another Tragic Song' alone sums up the spirit: melancholy, rising power, opressing harmonies, warmth, solo to make you cry, etc....

And if there are still some left to ask me where the originality lies, in this case, I advise them to pay particular attention to the interventions of the accordion or saxophone. Yes, others have done so before them, but it must be acknowledged that this completes the process of giving coherence to Field Of Names.

It's beautiful, it's talented, it's inspired. What more could you ask for?

OTHER REVIEWS
NO MAN: Returning Jesus (2001)
ATMOSPHERIC ROCK - Without having the boring side of a new age album, "Returning Jesus" offers a real moment of escape in a musical world where serenity is queen.
ANEKDOTEN: From Within (1999)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Anekdoten is still an inaccessible group and it will take a certain number of listenings to get through and "From Within".
