Miraculous! Rarely a term will have so well stuck to a Nergal who came close to death before beating a leukemia diagnosed in 2010 and annihilated in early 2011. Surviving but more determined than ever, the singer of Behemoth quickly went back on the road and in the studio. Thus arrives with "The Satanist" the tenth studio album of this legend of the extreme always straddling between a death and a black metal whose hatred remains screwed to his soul.

Without concession, "The Satanist" is a compact and brutal record, a true ode to evil. It is presented as a concentrate of what Behemoth knows how to do best with notably this capacity to mix brutality - Nergal's vocals are still as possessed as ever - and calmer, gloomy but sometimes quite melodic passages.

And this 9 tracks edifice is absolutely grandiose, without weakness with many moments of bravery. Behemoth proposes songs of an intense depth like 'Ben Sahar', 'Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer' or 'In The Absence Ov Light'. At the top of its evil art, the band transcends and bewitches. The spoken and very soft but worrying break of 'In The Absence Ov Light' is in this respect a pure moment of grace which illuminates this monument of brutality.

But it is really 'Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel' and the final track, 'O Father, O Satan, O Sun!' that make this new opus a work not to be missed. These two icy pearls, of an unequalled darkness, lead us into the depths of the abyss by their unhealthy side, definitive hymns to the evil from which it will be very difficult to escape.

This new offering from a band back from the dead has everything of the definitive and absolute record. Behemoth is at the top of its art and offers us the best of itself to become one of the masters of the dark forces without contest.

Beaucoup de tapage pour un album moyen... Certes de très bons moments, mais une cohésion parfois absente et sonne parfois creux.
