Vanishing Point was born in 1997 and has only released five albums, "Distant Is The Sun" included. So productivity is not their primary characteristic. At its beginnings, the band offered a rather Progressive Metal. As time went by and productions went on, the combo clearly tended to rarefy, slowly but surely, the progressive touches that characterized their compositions. "Distant Is The Sun" does not deviate from these intentions. Therefore, it wouldn't be incongruous to classify this record in the sphere of classical Melodic Metal that can be associated with bands like Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Masterplan, even Stratovarius.
Melodically speaking, the combo is always in progress. Silvio Massaro's voice is well in place - no high-pitched rises nor aggressive lows - and even manages to tint the choruses with quasi-FM colours that could attract fans of the genre. However, those who like muscular rhythmics will be satisfied because the musicians infuse the compositions with a very real power, itself reinforced by a strong production.
The whole thing is very powerfull and generally proposes a more upbeat than dark approach. However, we are far from the beginnings of Freedom Call. The album is perfectly homogeneous, so no track really stands out from the others even if the eponymous track, 'When Truth Lies', 'Era Zero' and 'Denied Delivrance' are particularly successful. As for the technique of the musicians, it is present but not invasive, no need to overload to convince.
So here is an album which, although it was too long awaited, is convincing and should seduce the hordes of melodic Metal fans who worship power but also know how to appreciate harmonies. - Official website
