"A rather convincing substitute of the Marillion, Hogarth era!"

Steve Hogarth's admirers, this review may interest you! Indeed, it is difficult to listen to this "Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind" without thinking about the vocals of Marillion's singer. Nick James has intonations and a way of modulating his voice that undeniably refers to that of Hogarth. And even if 25 Yard Screamer's music is not as dense and complex as that of his glorious elder, it is very close to it, especially over the period covering the second half of the 1990s and the early 2000s.
Like Marillion, "Something That Serves..." almost systematically gives in a languorous and atmospheric Pop with worked melodies and bewitching atmospheres. The resemblance is particularly striking on 'The Empty Ship' or 'The Journey' in which one sometimes has the feeling of recognizing passages borrowed from their source of inspiration.
While it is essentially in terms of density and complexity that the two groups stand out, there is also a difference in sensitivity. 25 Yard Screamer struggles a little to bring the same thickness and intensity as a quintet of Marillion's caliber can do. In terms of sensitivity, the Hogarth gang is also more comfortable expressing their feelings and emotions. In the end, 25 Yard Screamer lacks that little extra soul, that propensity to catalyze and then share his feelings that made Marillion a special band.
This "Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind" is still an excellent way to wait for the successor to "Sounds That Can't Be Made". He also reveals a formidable musician in the person of Nick James who masterfully sing, plays guitars and keyboards on this more than correct album. - Official website
