When Nikki Sixx's autobiography was published in 2007, an opus from a solo project called Sixx A.M.. "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" was born and it was to be a simple one shot. And then what had to happen happened. Four years later a sequel was born, and it wasn't the one in the book - although a book of photos accompanied this second musical object - but the one in the album. "This Gonna Hurt" was a great commercial success and the solo project became a side project...
The idea of associating Motley Crüe's bassist with DJ Ashba, the guitarist of Guns N' Roses, and entrusting the microphone to producer-composer James Michael did not seem to be a clear-cut idea. Who was going to lead the other, which influences were going to predominate? The raw, very "sex, drug & rock 'n' roll" energy and melodies that go straight to the point of Motley Crüe or the less formatted and more tortuous sounds of the Californian Hard Rock of Guns N' Roses?
Well, none of that in truth. Sixx A.M. does...Sixx A.M., songs filled with radio melodies and powerful guitars and rhythms with US FM connotations. We are far from the two monuments mentioned above and this "Modern Vintage" is even more different from them as it offers a panel of multiple influences tinting each of its tracks. We are indeed dealing here with a real musical patchwork that makes us travel, like a spaceship propelled into a temporal rift, in the heart of the Rock of the last five or six decades, in an enjoyable telescoping of modern and vintage sounds.
To go straight to the point, here is a non-exhaustive list of what you will find in this record: modern Rock, Swing, Rock-Punk, Pop-Soul, Groovy Rock, Country, American Bar, Circus, Electro-Rock, Disco-Metal, Ragtime, Rock March, Folk, Muse, Queen, Bowie, Michael Jackson, Van Halen, The Cars, Aerosmith, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, E.L.O., Extreme and Elton John.
"Modern Vintage" is daring, addictive, indispensable, it explodes the barriers of genres, covers many territories and can only bring people together. In fact, the challenge has been launched, despite the eclecticism of today's musical tastes, let's bet that every listener without exception - not resistant to Rock - will find something to its taste. - Official website
