"In two albums, Reckless Love has established itself as the leader of a festive Sleaze-Glam with communicative enthusiasm. It is not this "Spirit" that will change the game."

In only 2 albums, Reckless Love has established itself as a leader of a festive Sleaze-Glam with communicative enthusiasm, and its hit 'Hot' continues to be a played on the Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon airwaves. Without giving the time to breathe, the Finnish quartet quickly hit the radio stations of their native country with a new single ('Night On Fire'), the first steps of this new opus.
"Spirit" is no exception to the rule and represents a new stage in the evolution of the Kuopio-based combo. Co-produced by Ikka Wirtanen, who also took part in the writing process, this new opus benefits from an ample and powerful sound that pays homage to each of the band's members, whom it would be a pity to confine to the role of simple public entertainers. Indeed, behind the apparent simplicity of the proposed tracks, these talented musicians are able to show beautiful performances. Olli Herman is thus able to vary his vocal but also to push his voice without the slightest sign of weakness ('Metal Ass'). We will not come back to Pepe Reckless (guitar) whose playing sometimes reminds us those of Mattias Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), especially in the context of technical and crazy solos ('Night On Fire', 'Favorite Flavour'). On the other hand, we will insist on a perfect rhythm section capable of bringing an additional technical note, the fast and biting heavy of 'Metal Ass' being the occasion for everyone to show off his talent.
In 11 tracks, the Finns manage the feat of not repeating themselves, varying the tempi while keeping our attention. The contagious good mood is in the honor and it would be inhuman to try to resist the enthusiasm of a 'Bad Lovin'', the ardor of a 'Favorite Flavour' or the unstoppable riff of a 'Sex, Drugs & Reckless Love', hymn in power. The 80's are in the spotlight and some tributes are supported, in particular on the unavoidable 'I Love Heavy Metal' whose lyrics are composed of titles and band names from this blessed period. We also think of Def Leppard on the occasion of the mid-tempo 'Edge Of Our Dreams' or the superb ballad 'Hot Rain', but it is always an influence and never turns to plagiarism. This last track, using a strong reverberation, is bewitching and is the occasion for solos taking more time to develop and transmit emotion.
Not suffering from any weakness or in intensity, 'Spirit' confirms the talent of its progenitors and is a must in the style. Without revolutionizing anything, Reckless Love succeeds in dusting off a musical genre without ever falling into excessive nostalgia. Assuming their influences without being slaves to them, the Finns prove that talent and good humour are not contradictory terms, and the freshness and energy they distil will boost the morale of the most depressed.
