To those who, not having understood the approach of a deliciously kitsch and retro "Babez For Breakfast" (2010), announced Lordi's inevitable decay, the Finnish monsters responded with a scathing "To Beast Or Not To Beast" (2013). Clearly, the rage of Mr. Lordi and his band hasn't subsided and the quintet is already back with a new opus entitled "Scare Force One", a new example of the bloody humour of the Helsinki combo which benefits from a line-up that has finally stabilized.

If it doesn't revolutionize Lordi's identity, this new album is not short of surprises and evolutions. Thus, the sound benefits from an always powerful production but it becomes more rocky and aggressive, while seeing Hella's keyboards elaborating ambiences each one more shivering than the other. The place taken by the keyboardist is remarkable, carrying Machiavellian melodies ('Hell Sent In The Clowns') or weaving creepy sails ('Cadaver Lover') and imposing herself as the alter-ego of an Amen who takes advantage of it to swing bloody riffs and scathing soli. Finally, Mana confirms his revealed potential on "To Beast Or Not To Beast", propelling the ensemble with power and technique with the help of well felt double-pedal passages. As for the solo section, the rhythmic pair never seemed so complementary, giving Ox the opportunity to let go a bit more, like on the introduction of the heavy and fat 'The United Rocking Dead', one of the most unusual tracks of the new release.

Impossible however not to mention the performance of the leader of this band of monsters thirsty for blood and fresh flesh. Indeed, Mr. Lordi proves once again that he is one of the rare singers capable of mastering such a low and hoarse voice. His demonstration on the eponymous title is the perfect example, linking extreme introductory shouts with whispered verses and a rise in power leading to an unstoppable chorus. And when it comes to unstoppable choruses, Lordi particularly spoils us, almost every track being a hit, except for the two instrumental interludes dedicated to Amen and Hella. Impossible to mention them all here, even if the eponymous track and its more convoluted structure than usual, 'House Of Ghosts', mid-tempo in chiaroscuro, the hypnotic 'Monster Is My Name' with its sneaky break, the irresistible single 'Nailed By The Hammer Of Frankenstein', or the hymn 'Sir, Mr. Presideath, Sir!' are particularly likely to haunt your memory and your nights.

"Scare Force One" stands out as a great success and a new peak in the Finns' career. With a formation in which the newcomers have definitely found their place and brought a nice added value, Lordi marks his territory. Misfortune to those who will want to rub shoulders with him !
