Blind Guardian is not known to be prolific. Their tenth album is no exception and comes after a long wait, the band also working on its famous orchestral album that we have been waiting for a while now.

This "Beyond The Red Mirror" offers us a concept around the story developed in "Imaginations From The Other Side" (for more information, we invite you to read the interview of the band we did). The album is long and bushy, the result of a work that we can guess titanic and which presents a patchwork of the band's different faces, between symphonic, thrash and speed metal.

'Ninth Wave' opens the disc with class. It reminds us of the band's great era in the 90s with its speed riffs, its heroic fantasy tunes and its incomparable epic side, Blind Guardian's true signature. In this vein of speed, 'Sacred Mind' is just as successful with its intense tempo, perfect chorus and majestic choirs. Finally ,'The Holy Grail' stands out in a purely old-fashioned speed style.

The formation seems to have regained the freshness and majesty that made it famous. Because despite the richness of the subject, the songs on the album remain accessible and most often avoid the pitfall of "too much" that may have hampered some recent albums. On the orchestral side, there are three tracks: 'At The Edge Of Time', epic and intense, with a huge chorus, presents a very cinematic aspect with orchestrations that bring majesty and emotion just like 'Grand Parade' and 'The Throne' which prove the ease of the band in this grandiloquent but not pompous style.

Finally, Blind Guardians signs some classical but effective tracks like "Ashes Of Eternity" and "Twilight Of The Gods", close to the thrash, typical of the band's sound in the 2000s. The rhythm is intense, the songs are served by catchy choruses and Hansi Kürsch does a remarkable vocal work.

With "Beyond The Red Mirror", Blind Guardian offers us a fresh, varied and epic album. The group confirms its renewed shape and proposes a successful compromise between its different lives. The record certainly requires some careful listening to be understood, but the musical journey it constitutes is well worth the effort.

Il est impératif d'écouter cet album, superbe mais trop long, en plusieurs fois ou on risque la migraine carabinée... Dommage, amputé de 2 ou 3 titres, il devient vraiment excellent
