"Between two records, Vanden Plas takes a more than pleasant break and sees him adapt his songs to the acoustic format for a beautiful result."

With a first album, "Colour Temple", which succeeded in establishing itself thanks to a large distribution in 1995, Vanden Plas did not waste any time and, to make his fans wait, proposed an Ep called "AcCult" in the autumn of 1996. The success of the German band, in France in particular, was largely due to its dynamic label, CNR Music, which at the time began to promote its heavy melodic and progressive style to a whole new generation of fans.
For "AcCult", Vanden Plas offers us a panel of his acoustic talent with three tracks from his first album in this format, accompanied by three covers by various artists and two bonus tracks. My Crying','Father' and 'How Many Tears' can be found in beautifully refined versions. The acoustic exercise is always tricky and has been used too often by bands in recent years, but Vanden Plas gets away with it. This passage allows the titles to reveal all their soul and sensitivity, which is also favoured by Andy Kuntz's ever-emotional singing. In this context, he confirms how important he is for the Vanden Plas building. More than just a band of technicians, Vanden Plas is a team in which each member weighs the same.
In addition, Vanden Plas performs three covers and moves far from his musical sphere on two of them. First he dares to attack Ray Charles' Georgia On My Mind'. If simply approaching the extraordinary class of this legendary title is impossible, the band is still doing very well. Andy delivers a faithful performance and the piano tune is faithfully covered. In any case, this version reminds us how much this song is a pure marvel defying time.
With 'Des Hauts, Des Bas', the band takes up a standard from the most French of the Swiss, Stephan Eicher. Once again far from its style, the quintet is doing very well by being very respectful of the original work again. Andy's charming French accent perfectly accompanies piano music with softness and restraint. Finally, with Marillion's "Kayleigh", Vanden Plas finds a more usual style and appropriates this absolute classic of progressive rock with great ease.
To close the whole, Vanden Plas brings out two old things at the end of the album with 'Fire' and 'Days Of Thunder'. Written in the early 90s, the two songs allow us to appreciate the band's beginnings, and even if all this has aged a little, especially on the keyboards, we can already guess the band's great potential.
"AcCult" is a beautiful, gentle and delicate recreation for Vanden Plas. The band is happy and pleases us by showing its strong sensitivity. This record is ideal to understand the influences of the Germans and to wait before their eagerly awaited 2nd album. - Official website
