"This third album of Metal Church with Mike Howe behind the microphone is a pure success of Heavy Thrash tinged with epic and melodic passages."

Despite its qualities, "The Dark" did not allow Metal Church to transform the trial of its first album. The third album will also take a long time to be released, which is never very good in this era of constant evolution. "Blessing In Disguise" is released at the beginning of 1989 and see the band make some changes. David Wayne is replaced by Heretic's singer Mike Howe, and the band's leader Kurdt Vanderhoof takes a back seat, still composing but no longer appearing in the official line up, John Marshall now officiating on guitar.

"Blessing In Disguise" is composed of 9 rather long tracks. John Marshall and Craig Wells, the second guitarist, take the time to develop atmospheres with a nice technique. Musically, the vocal change has little influence. Howe has a typical voice of the time, close to a Rob Halford with a power that fits perfectly with the heavy and thrashy metal practiced by Metal Church.

What is appreciable in this disc, it is the variety brought by the group to its compositions. Thus 'Of Unsound Mind' with a relentless rhythmic, 'Fake Healer' and its unstoppable chorus and 'Rest In Pieces' are all guarantors of a real know-how, proposing a good balance between vigor and melody with soli of great quality. At the heart of the album, Metal Church switches with talent to the epic with a formidable 'Anthem To The Estranged' which navigates marvelously between softness and pure power, then a 'Badlands' in the same spirit which mixes the epic side of Iron Maiden and the heavy of Judas Priest. The band also gets close to pure Thrash on 'Cannot Telle A Lie' which is very efficient.

The changes have done a lot of good to a Metal Church in great shape that signs with "Blessing In Disguise" an excellent heavy thrash record. The band seems to be relaunched for good with this album to be considered as a classic of the genre and as one of the best of the American formation.

OTHERS EXTREME - "Shores of the Abstract Line" is a divine illumination, a chiaroscuro music that constantly takes us on a roller coaster ride.

ROCK - "Reggatta De Blanc" installs The Police at the top of the 80's Rock. Reggae, world, Pop, Rock are the ingredients that will propel the band into the legend, even if the best is yet to come.
