"It's hard not to wonder about the usefulness of such a release as the exercise of the covers album quickly becomes tiresome, even by one of the most powerful voices on the circuit."

Jorn loves covers, there's no denying that. After having wanted to pay tribute to Ronnie James Dio in 2010, and without counting the numerous rereadings the singer has done during his career, he is back with "Heavy Rock Radio" with more heterogeneous intentions, since this new offering contains covers of Iron Maiden as well as Kate Bush, Deep Purple or Journey to name but a few.
This diversity of styles that Lande has arranged is sometimes interesting, all the more so as the Norwegian (sometimes) tackles songs less known to the "general public". If 'Hotel California', 'Don't Stop Believing' or 'Stormbringer' don't fall into this category, it's more surprising - and interesting - to see Jorn singing Iron Maiden's 'Final Frontier' for a rather nice result, but also Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill', this last song being perhaps the best part of the record.
But the main problem, beyond even the interest of proposing this kind of release, is that the Jorn Lande has the defect of his qualities, namely that all the tracks have undergone the same treatment in terms of interpretation (power, power and power...). If 'You're The Voice', 'Running Up That Hill' or 'Don't Stop Believing' come out with the honours, other moments leave us more dubious about this constant choice to show muscles without nuances. 'Hotel California', for example, automatically loses the lightness that makes the charm of its original version. Similarly, what's the point of covering another Dio track ('Rainbow In The Dark') when Lande has already devoted an entire album to it?
In the end, it would have been much more interesting for Jorn to work on new solo compositions or following the excellent first album of his Dracula project. On the form, it is possible to doubt the usefulness of such an approach. In terms of content, few striking moments emerge after listening to the album. In short, like many cover albums, "Heavy Rock Radio" makes us want to listen to the original tracks again. - Official website
