Band composed of musicians working or having worked for Fish, and in particular its rhythmic section made up of Steve Vantsis and Dave Stewart, Tilt offers us after 5 years creation of its first album, "Hinterland", produced by a certain John Mitchell.
After an opening with a nice post-rock atmosphere rising gradually in temperature, '_Assembly' ends up with a powerful sequence that inevitably reminds Porcupine Tree. And this impression will be immediately confirmed with 'Hinterland' in which the band shows his muscles, for a well-structured progressive rock flirting with metal, carried by a rhythmic section using any valuable means (what bass lines!) and on which Paul Dourley's vocals turn out to be quite simply perfect.
Like Arena, Tilt develops inspired melodies, catchy without being simplistic, mixing progressive instrumental soarings and songs almost tuned for the radio ('Strontium Burning'), reminding of Flying Colors, managing to make its purpose accessible to the greatest number of people while satisfying the amateurs of a music that can touch the senses as well as the mind. And this flood of rather peachy titles does not prevent the quartet from putting a little softness in its purpose ('Against the Rain', 'Disassembly_'), before leaving all electricity outside for a concise and effective fire ('No Superman'). We will also note a modern, efficient and unpretentious production of John Mitchell, highlighting the musical qualities of the band whose various members put their technique at the disposal of a particularly addictive music.
After the soft final proposed by a 'Disassembly_' which evaporates little by little, we have to notice the irrepressible desire to take the album back to its beginning, validating then all the qualities of an album which, for lack of revolutionizing the genre, places this new band at the top of the scale. To be followed very carefully. - Official website
