"Between Riverside, Opeth and Pain of Salvation, "Everchild" is a magnificent album, bewitching and with a flavor as bittersweet as it is sweet."

Born in 1998, Dark Suns quickly abandoned its melodic death metal for a more convoluted and adventurous metal variation. The band achieved a master stroke with the unforgettable "Existence", a luminous work heir to Pain of Salvation. Then he evolved and transmuted  according to its moods, leaving some fans on the side of the road. Indeed, even if "Grave Human Genuine" was well done, it didn't compete with the previous masterpiece. Will "Everchild" allow these Dark Stars to find a special place in the hearts of the lovers of refined music?

It is obvious that the Germans are masters in transcendental emotion, propagated by the voice of the singer-drummer (Niko Knappe) whose tone is as important for the solidity of the structures, as can be a Mariuz Duda... By the way, the relationship with Riverside is not so insignificant.

The album is again in a purely progressive vein as was "Orange", it also spreads a melancholy both sweet and smooth, carried by haunting, ethereal or peaceful compositions. The vaporous atmospheres are numerous, always moving as on 'Everchild' or 'Foutain', but also full of novelties: a very pretty crystalline piano there, evanescent jazzy passages here. The biggest upheaval comes from the use of unexpected instruments: brass instruments resound on 'The Only Young Ones Left', a sensual saxophone resounds and prints a silky softness...

Dark Suns finds its way, and gives us to taste an opus at the crossroads between Opeth, Pain of Salvation and Riverside. The band is not dead and even propels itself to the firmament of the bands of the year. "Everchild" is thus poignant, magnificent, beautiful, percussive, serious, solemn, warm, soft, violent: THE must-have album of your summer.

Il est vrai que l'affiliation à Riverside est parfois très (trop?) prégnante... Mais ça n’empêche pas d'apprécier cet album à sa juste valeur... Un bon 4/5.
