Khymera is one of the many projects initiated by Daniele Liverani. On the first album, it was Steve Walsh who did the vocals. It's now the turn of Dennis Ward (bassist of Pink Cream 69 and a renowned producer) to hold the microphone, which is, to my knowledge, his first experience in the field.

The music oscillates between A.O.R. and hard-FM, and these two facets often evoke the best of the genre. If the paths taken have been marked out for decades, one is never bored listening to this opus.

The beginning of the record is very high-flying with notably the unstoppable hymns "Alone" and "Let it burn" which remind us of the great hours of hard-FM (with choirs and keyboards). The ballad " All that I have " starts like Def Leppard but its second part is particularly successful. After an average "After the way", Khymera offers us a little bomb with "You can't take me" which refers to the best of Survivor or Journey. Let's also mention the nice ballad " Tomorrow never comes " which starts classically and ends almost in an endearing mid-tempo.

As far as the musicians are concerned, it's pleasant to note that Liverani (who plays bass, keyboards and production) doesn't do too much and the guitarist gives us nice solos. I'm a bit more reserved on Dennis Ward's vocals which seem a bit tight on some parts. However, if the latter seems to have a good margin of progression, this never spoils the qualities of this perfectly balanced record which will satisfy without any problem even the most demanding amateurs of the genre.
