At first considered as a friendly Helloween clone or Blind Guardian, Orden Ogan became a respected formation. After "Ravenhead", the German band wasted no time in coming back with a sixth album, "Gunmen", which should allow them to assert themselves even more. "Ravenhead" had seen Orden Ogan abandon his heroïc fantasy themes, he confirms this trend with "Gunmen" which sees him wandering on the side of the American Far-West.
Epic is the term that best suits this album. Orden Ogan has built his record like a live western with a fanfare start, a majestic end and some twists and turns in between. 'Gunman' is the ideal opening single: fast, melodic with a perfect chorus, it's just a hit. The cinematographic character is particularly felt on several tracks. 'Vampire In Ghost Town' takes us on a journey through the American West with its chorus while the duet with Liv Kristin, 'Come With Me To The Other Side', between heavy epic and power ballad, plays with emotions.
The action is represented by a nice trio, 'Fields Of Sorrow, 'The Face Of Silence' and 'Down Here'. These songs are models of the melodic heavy speed with their masterful choruses, typical riffs and solos with a huge epic breath. Such a record required a grand finale, which he brilliantly delivers with 'One Last Chance' and 'Final Coronat Opus', taking us through a nice whirlwind of emotions. At the crossroads of Ayreon, Iron Maiden and Queen, Orden Ogan signs a moment of bravery with this progressive track concluding the story wonderfully.
With "Gunmen", Orden Ogan crosses a new artistic level and reveals treasures of imagination. With such an album, the German band opens himself a royal road to the top of the genre. - Official website
