If we wanted proof of vampires' ability to regenerate, we got it with 'Hammer Of The Witches'. Cradle Of Filth found a shape that we thought was lost in the limbo of a wickedly routine. With a new line-up, Dani Filth has regained his aura and we were waiting for confirmation of this revival. In the same flamboyant gothic spirit, "Cryptoriana - The Seductive Of Decay" plunges us into the Victorian era to make us feel its romantic, morbid and esoteric side.

Without being purely conceptual, the album can be listened to like an old novel, with an intro, 'Exquisite Torments Awaits', icy, with a dark side worthy of Lovecraft. 'Heartbreak And Seance' sticks to the seat, 'Shaw and Ashok' swing an orgy of guitars in a heavy black spirit. Dani is perfect with his low vocals alternating with typical screaming. 'Achingly Beautiful' and 'Wester Vespertine' are the next best tracks with their gothic and heavy atmosphere with oriental, symphonic aspects, underlined by the delicate female vocals of Liv Kristine. And above all we find this decadent romantic spirit thanks to the keyboard and breaks that bring a beautiful cinematic side.

After this great start, Cradle Of Filth becomes darker and more violent. 'The Seductiveness Of Decay' and 'You Will Know The Lion By His Claw' regain a certain black metal spirit, allowing to appreciate a delicious icy atmosphere with this remarkable guitar work. The apotheosis is reached with the finale 'Death And The Maiden'. In about 9 minutes, the band makes the symbiosis of his art, getting more inward and muffled while keeping the gothic side. Once again, brilliant solos, angelic female vocals and catchy backing vocals mix for a remarkable result.

With "Cryptoriana - The Seductive Of Decay", Cradle Of Filth signs an exciting thirteenth act from beginning to end. It confirms its revival and the perfect coherence of this line-up. Like a phoenix, the English band is completely revived and defies time with an insolent class.
