"Anneke Van Giersbergen's desire to return to something more metal had been palpable for some time. With Vuur, she realizes it with dazzling class."

Since her departure from The Gathering, Anneke Van Griesbergen has multiplied projects, often far from metal but always with the same passion. In 2015 the adventure "The Gentle Storm" gave the Dutch singer back the taste of saturation. So here is Vuur, its continuation without Arjen Lucassen, hence the change of name, but also without Marcela Bovio, who left with three musicians of this adventure. The result is "In This Moment We Are Free - Cities", a concept album of 11 tracks, each of which focuses on a city of the world and the feelings Anneke felt during her stay in these cities. Musically the tone is clearly metallic with touches close to Devin Townsend, Anneke's long time accomplice.

Brilliant with her angelic and powerful tone, Anneke illuminates the disc. One can only be seduced by 'My Champion - Berlin' and 'Days Go By - London'. On these two titles the mix between progressive and atmospheric is perfect. The work on the riffs and solos is amazingly powerful and delicate. Then with 'The Marty And The Saint - Beirut', Vuur dives into the universe of Devin Townsend with a musical structure close to his style and the superb work of seasoned musicians.

The richness of this record is its variety. Vuur picks up on all styles and hits the bull's eye with every shot. 'Time - Rotterdam' imposes a melancholic and almost doom face, evoking the era of The Gathering's "Nighttime Birds".  With 'The Fire - San Francisco' and 'Reunite! Paris', the journey becomes more atmospheric. It even becomes melancholic on 'Freedom - Rio' and 'Valley Of Diamonds - Mexico City', the purity of the vocals blending perfectly with the musical finesse. This work finds its culmination on 'Your Glorious Light Will Shine - Helsinki' which sees the musicians enjoying themselves in a spirit close to the djent scene.

"In This Moment We Are Free - Cities" is a little marvel of atmospheric and progressive metal. With Vuur, Anneke achieves a brilliant return to business in a style that she helped to make popular. She expresses her artistic sensibility with a class that many can envy her.

Ah du gros son il y en a, et du riff insipide aussi malheureusement. La voix toujours splendide de la belle et quelques trouvailles évitent la pire note en ce qui me concerne... Quelle déception!

SILHOUETTE (NL): The World Is Flat And Other Alternative Facts (2017)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Silhouette offers a new album of well-constructed neo-progressive rock with rich and inspired sounds that doesn't lack much to make it a reference in the field.
KRAFTWERK: The Man-machine (1978)
OTHERS - "The Man-machine" is certainly the last great album of the discography of Kraftwerk.
