To give birth to a double album, even if you publish the two parts of it a year apart, is a very challenging undertaking because there is a great risk of failing for excess ambition. But sometimes the little ones succeed where the big boys have (a little) failed. Such is the case with Kobra And The Lotus, which has risen to this challenge with flying colours.

One year after having released "Prevail I", Canadians are back with the second segment of this diptych that will be a milestone in their career. Having been captured at the same time under the leadership of the Danish producer Jacob Hansen, an engineer with a prestigious track record (Epica, Pretty Maids...) who knew how to coat the heavy metal forged by the group with a more powerful fuselage, the two sides proved to be very close to each other. However, even if it was not a question of giving them a different colouring, as Opeth did with "Deliverance" and "Damnation", "Prevail II" differs doubly, albeit discreetly, from its predecessor. First of all, by making itself more unstoppable and irresistible.

In fact, far from having shown all his talent in a first high-flying part, Kobra And The Lotus testifies once again to the fertility of his inspiration by filling this suite with ten tracks to which are added a cover of Fleetwood Mac and an acoustic re-reading that are not far from surpassing their predecessors' heads and shoulders. The menu lasts more than fifty minutes without filling or weakness. The hymns follow one another from the first single "Losing My Humanity" with its leaden features to the long "White Water" whose flamboyant conclusion provides guitarists with the emotional setting to express themselves, testifying in that the now quintet is not reduced to its sole figurehead, the singer Kobra Paige, even if she radiates all along by propelling these gems that she packs with a melancholy barely veiled ('Let Me Love You').

This leads us to mention the second reason why "Prevail II" does not deliver exactly the same program as it did a year ago. Darker, just like its visual, this opus displays an aggressive and disenchanted hardness close to Judas Priest, as in "Human Empire" and "You're Insane" not so far from a track of "Painkiller" thanks to a bulldozer rhythmic and the sharp vocals of the beautiful woman.

A perfect balance between darkness and goldsmith writing at the origin of potential hits ('Heartache','Velvet Roses'), this fifth album takes its authors to the top of a noble and racy heavy whose depth allows it to extract them from the reducing mold of the simple metal with female singer.
