"Amorphis signs with "Queen Of Time" a very strong work that sees him return to his extreme roots without denying his melodic strength."

Without really disappointing, Amorphis had been purring for a few years. But the will to start a new chapter took shape with "Circle" and the Finns stepped outside their comfort zone by reconnecting with their extreme roots on "Under The Red Cloud". Will "Queen Of Time" confirm this quivering?

Still, there is some change in the line-up for the first time since 2005 with the return to bass of Olli Pekka Laine who hadn't played with Amorphis since "Tuonela". Another indication is the return to growl of guitarist Toni Koivisuaari.

Amorphis lays the foundation for its version 2.0 with 'The Bee'. You can recognize its style in a fraction of a second... but in a different way. The marriage between growl and clear vocals is perfect, Joutsen's timbre is always bewitching while growl brings a very gripping power. Violence is mixed with purity. The orchestrations develop the majestic side with an enormous epic force. Amorphis takes us into a world rich in emotions. 'Message In The Amber' sticks you to the seat with its flamboyant strength. Between these intertwined songs, fine orchestrations and epic power, the listener goes through a lot of emotions, with the choirs adding enormous strength. 'Daughter Of Hate' seems more classic but also flies to other horizons thanks to the growl but also to a jazzy passage on the saxophone and a passage spoken in Finnish.

Then between 'The Golden Ink' and its oriental break, 'Heart Of The Giant' and its grandiloquence worthy of a Therion or 'We Accused' so beautiful with its folk sounds or the huge 'Amongst Stars' on which Anneke Van Griesbergen bewitches us with her angelic voice, this record is a flawless.

With "Queen Of Time", Amorphis reinvents himself while keeping his personality intact. He has written a strong and sensitive work rich in emotions and moments of bravery that has already been nominated for the title of Album of the Year. A band capable after more than 10 albums of questioning itself reinforces its endearing and authentic side.

SPOCK'S BEARD: Noise Floor (2018)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With a big first half under the sign of pop-rock-folk and a second more progressive part, "Noise Floor" remains one of the most accessible record of Spock's Beard.

HEAVY METAL - Despite some slight innovations, "sexorcism" is not at the same level as its predecessor and seems to favour provocation over inspiration.
