What's new in Lazuli this year 2018? An eighth Season, a new collection of 8 titles for this atypical group that has conquered hearts and built a reputation over the years that now extends beyond the progressive sphere, and is now being exported internationally, with Great Britain and Germany in the lead.
With this new album, the people of Gard continue the momentum of their two previous productions. On the musical side, we find the band's usual ingredients, with soothed piano/voice parts ('J'Attends un Printemps') or a strong emphasis on the acoustic guitar (introduction by'Mes Amis Mes Frères'), broken with the electric choruses all in fury carried by the Léode and the guitar so characteristic of Ged Byar, even if the latter appears a little less prominent than on the previous album.
Not much new under the Cévennes sun, you may ask? Certainly, those who are used to the production of l'Abeille Rôde will be on familiar ground. However, when the group releases the horses (final of "Les Côtes", "Mes Semblables" and its typical rhythmic), it always proves to be as powerful, always as enjoyable. The sound layers overlap, the instruments dialogue and offer a multi-level reading of the arrangements, all with these textures that distinguish the group from its peers.
But beyond the simple musical content, Dominique Léonetti's powerful verb gives these different titles an imposing stature that also takes on its full live dimension. This somewhat disillusioned poetry allows her to evoke with words that just touch on environmental concerns ('A Shroud of Mist','The Ribs') as well as the animal condition with the improbable'Canine Chronicle', but also to offer himself a bit of nostalgia ('My Friends, my Brothers') or to pass on a powerful message to the attention of a selfish society in which he no longer recognizes himself ('My Similar' and his false airs of a'prisoner of a Male Cell').
Lazuli is a generous group that, CD after CD, places its soul at the feet of its listeners' ears. This "Season 8" is no exception to the rule, and if it is not a marked analogy with the productions that preceded it that could lead the less faithful to move away from it, it guarantees new strong emotions to those who will immerse themselves once again in the Lazuli universe. - Official website
