In 2009, the Swedish Grand Designers caused a controversy with the release of their first album called "Time Elevation", which was (too) strongly inspired by Def Leppard. And the release, two years later, of "Idolizer" and in 2014 of "Thrill Of The Night" didn't change anything.
One more time, this "Viva La Paradise" reminds to our good memory the gang of Sheffield. However, contrary to the three previous albums, and especially to "Idolizer" thanks to which we could go into a blind test of each track to guess which Deaf Leopard song it was reminiscent of, this fourth album of Grand Design only reminds us of Def Leppard... at times. On the other hand, the Swedes sound like the Scotsmen of Heavy Pettin' too, an ephemeral promising band from the NWOBHM.
Pelle Saether's voice has a lot to do with it, but not only. The melodies remind us of the ones of the 80's. Here it's all about fun, girls and rock'n roll. None of the ten tracks, all of them built in their four-minute packed format, temper the dynamic, each of them goes to the essential. Let's mention 'Face It' with its arena rock style, the James Bond soundtrack worthy start of 'It's Only Straight From The Heart', the galvanizing eponymous title, the addictive 'Aim 4 The Heart', the glaming 'Too Late To Fall In Love' close to Mötley Crue and the sensational overture of 'I Would Be The Wind'...
Nostalgic of the 80's or/and die-hard fans of Def Leppard, this record is made for you. As for those who, in their youth, enjoyed the kids of Heavy Pettin', to miss this rejuvenation would be a shame. - Official website
