"Each song is a melodic and catchy fire that can be a hit. Godsmack's new start leads the band into an effective and certainly very promising hard rock."

Evolving until then in a heavy register at the same time modern and aggressive, Godmsack managed to make a name for itself in the well-filled galaxy of American metal. The previous album, "1000hp", released in 2014, was not one of their best album they released and made us feel a certain loss of inspiration. This time, Sully Erna and his band seems to have taken things over control with this "When Legends Rise" and try to offer something fundamentally accessible.

The single 'Bulletproof' heralds the colour with an atmosphere full of simplicity and above all melodic efficiency, including the catchy, clear vocals, conveying enough power to keep Godsmack in a metal universe, even a little sanitized. The very parodic mini-film on the shooting of the video is in this respect quite revealing of the self-derision the band shows but also of the fact that they assume this direction more commercial and more hard rock than heavy metal. This new chapter takes the form of 11 straightforward songs, in a short format and without embellishments.

The singer is largely at the maneuver in the writing and even the production and thus pushes this new sound quite far. For example, the catchy 'Unforgettable' is very catchy, with very pop backing vocals that also illustrate the positive dynamic that the band wants to convey. Each track is a potential hit with enough aggressiveness to stick with the essence of Godsmack but also with heady, positive and very well found choruses. This is the case for the catchy 'Take It To The Edge' but also for the rigorous ballad 'Under Your Scars' which is really very accurate in emotion and unstoppable melodies, with violins. 'Say My Name' will evoke Metallica's "Load" and "Re-Load" period, especially on the vocal intonations.

On 'When Legends Rise', all the tracks hit the bull's eye and show the undeniable talent of Erna and his band. The fans of the first hour may not all follow this assumed (r)evolution but all the ingredients are gathered here to make Godsmack grow again.
