"Very close to psychedelic Pink Floyd, "The Overview Effect" takes us 40 years back in time without ever sounding old-fashioned."

After a disappointing "Absorption Lines" released in 2017, Jet Black Sea, still led by Adrian Jones, leader of Nine Stones Close, returns with a third album, consisting of a 35-minute epic track, set between two short tracks.
As an appetizer, 'Escape Velocity' opens the ball in an atmospheric mode tinged with electro where the guitar full of reverb' comes to pose its notes with delicacy, before a slight hardening of the subject matter concretized by a sharp guitar and a powerful high-pitched voice. Rather well structured, this first piece seems however somewhat out of step with the rest.
For this suite is made up of a 35-minute track, 'The Overview Effect', which starts with a long and bewitching introduction. Then the bass starts, which will serve as a real keystone to the whole title. A bass that plays in the depths and reminds us of a certain Roger Waters. No coincidence here, since from the eleventh minute, a very Berlin School keyboards passage is used as a support for a devilish Gilmour-like guitar, delivering its bars on a very slow rhythm and 'The Overview Effect' takes us on the tracks of the psychedelic and avant-gardist Pink Floyd, that of "A Saucerful of Secrets" and others "Meddle".
The atmosphere is captivating, held by a syncopated rhythm and many sound effects of all kinds, sprinkled with dissonances on some more experimental passages, and we find all the codes developed more than 45 years ago by the mythical band with a touch of modernity brought by string samples or electro sounds. And to vary all this, nothing like a little acoustic guitar like on... "Animals" to take a breath and plunge more and more into this magical atmosphere. The themes follow one another and time flies by without the listener realizing it, because far from plagiarizing the London quartet, our duo has its own personality, retaining the listener's interest as the minutes go by. 'Home' finally comes to a soft and beautiful end to this too short record, in the form of a melodic ballad with acoustic contours, worthy of a Riversea album, offering a poignant guitar solo as an apotheosis.
Bringing back to life a music that is more than 40 years old is not an easy task. Jet Black Sea achieves this with panache, modernizing the subject matter in a formidable way and delivering, in the manner of Galahad with his recent album "Seas of Change", an album as unexpected as it is exciting. - Official website
