"Stéphane Desbiens and his D Project offer us in this "Find Your Sun" a rereading inspired by several decades of progressive rock."

For the fifth album of his D Project, patiently matured over four years, Stéphane Desbiens returns in a quartet formula featuring the faithful Jean Gosselin behind the drums, while Isabelle Cormier and her violin joined the group after participating in the previous album, and Philippe Desbiens, the maestro's son, now holds the bass.

As usual, our Quebecer also called upon a few guests, among whom we will note the presence of a certain Romain Thorel (Lazuli), who came to give some horn melodies, or Fred Schendel (Glass Hammer) on keyboards, while Andy Jackson (Pink Floyd notably) came to bring his experience in the final production. Of course, this people inventory that begins this review is not unrelated to the incredible musical diversity present once again on "Find your Sun".

Far from denying his influences (see his interview), Stéphane Desbiens takes a malicious pleasure in integrating them into his music, taking the listener on a very eclectic musical journey that may surprise at first listening.

From the very beginning of 'The End', a beautiful Pink Floyd-like atmosphere will precede very aggressive metal guitars, before turning to a pastoral vocals  accompanied by a flute reminding Camel. In just 6 minutes, the stage is set and the sarabande will continue like this during 48 minutes of titles in the rather short format, if we except the magnificent 'Tell Me'.

Guitar a la Steve Hackett and saxophone ('Crude Reality'), aerial keyboards and metallic guitar, violin ('Tell Me'), jazz/fusion atmosphere with the purple color so dear to Robert Fripp ('Live to Spare'), another guitar solo in Gary Moore mode followed by Romain Thorel's soothing English horn ('The Sting'), RIO introduction before a new tour on the metal side before a double solo guitar/bass then violin/bass that King Crimson ('Find your Sun') wouldn't have disavowed, the choice is vast and successive listenings will be necessary to digest all this patchwork finally very coherent, to which we can only reproach some sometimes abrupt endings.

'Be Free', composed by Philippe Desbiens, comes to close in a very beautiful way and with a tinge of optimism an album whose main subject is rather dark, dealing in particular with the end of life and these ancestors who are too often abandoned to their sad fate.

With a formula that hits the bull's eye, in which the violin brings a real added value, Stéphane Desbiens and his D Project offer us a rereading inspired by several decades of progressive rock. "Find Your Sun" is an opus that needs a little attention to fully enjoy all its richness. Above all, don't deprive yourself of it.
