"A beautiful blues rock album largely tinged with soul composed and interpreted by a young prodigy."

Marcus King is one of those little musical prodigies who can only be admired. Indeed, with a first album released in 2015, the 19-year-old guitarist is already making a name for himself. His hoarse vocals and his sobriety are bursting out in front of the world. Three years later, he comes back with this third opus which settle the phenomenon among the bluesmen to be followed closely.
It is a collection of 10 tracks, almost entirely composed by this young artist, that we can listen to here. We're dealing with a genius from the six-string but what strikes us at first sight is this slightly hoarse voice which reminds us of soul singers as much as blues singers. There is both lightness, which can be attributed to youth, and the authenticity that characterizes old lone wolves who have already lived well. This rather special vocals, which may not please everyone, refers to the veiled suffering of a Janis Joplin or an Aretha Franklin who has not yet taken flight. With this shortness of breath and this very personal interpretation, King scores points and cannot be accused of wanting to fit into a commercial mould made easy.
As far as music is concerned, we're on the side of blues rock, soul music and southern folk. With brass instruments (saxophone, trumpet or trombone) quite present, a very leading keyboard and a precise rhythm section andquite experienced, Marcus King's guitar is sometimes discreet and sometimes explosive. It is sometimes suave, with a clear and supple sound. Other moments let a sharper sound express itself, but it only occasionally takes over, showing a certain humility. For it is rather a question of modesty here, with musicians at the service of the music. The tracks are not necessarily wildly original but, once again, at 22 years old, King has nothing to envy his elders.
It is therefore with happiness that we can listen to this rather varied album, made up of pretty tracks which nevertheless sometimes lack a little maturity so that the sensitivity, which one guesses important, can be spread out in the open. - Official website
