Close to his fans and very active on social networks, Delain likes to spoil them. For his tenth birthday, he offered an excellent DVD recorded at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. This release followed a high quality "Moonbathers". Now, rather than taking a well-deserved break, the band offers us a new EP, "Hunter's Moon". And one more time, Delain has not done things by halves with four new songs and ten live tracks in audio and video format.
"Moonbathers" showed a band in shape that confirmed its strength for a melodic and catchy heavy metal carried by Charlotte Wessels' luminous voice. The new songs follow this trend and don't sound like B-sides. They confirm the ease of the group to mix the atmospheres. 'Masters Of Destiny' and 'Hunter's Moon' are catchy but do not neglect the heavy aspects. On the first one, the increasing power is perfect while the second one is reinforced by a formidable growl. Very short, 'The Silence Is Mine' has an interesting airy side. Finally "Art Kills" is a last nice mix between strength and melody with a touch of electro, heavy soli and a chorus carried by a Charlotte at the top of her art.
The live is part of the Utrecht concert of 31 October 2017. The rendering is very dynamic and lively, the audience is in the spotlight and you can feel the excellent atmosphere. To begin, 'Hands Of Gold' and then 'Macabre Dance' are perfect with this mix of strength and melody, George Oosthoek's growl bring a big power to the first. Then the grace of the ballad "Scarlet" takes effect, Charlotte's very pure song blends perfectly with the delicate sound of the violin. Subsequently, Marco Hietala, invited on six tracks, forms a dream duo with Charlotte, the two voices complementing each other perfectly. 'Not Enough' allows Charlotte to shine alone on a track and Scandal' Queen's takeover sees Marco's return and is an excellent moment that is both dynamic and exciting. Finally 'The Gathering' is an ideal ending, a true hit with a remarkable chorus.
"Hunter's Moon" is a nice gift from Delain. It confirms the dazzling artistic health of the band and allow us to wait for the next album. It should be noted that there is also a limited version of the disc with bonuses of all kinds.
