"The weight of years has no influence on Robin Trower's music because it is played with respect for tradition and heart. That's one of the lessons of this magnificent blues-rock album."

Over the years Robin Trower's status has earned him the status of a rock legend. The 74-year-old was Procol Harum's original guitarist from 1967 and pursued a career with his Robin Trower Band from 1973. It is difficult to list all the Britishman's albums and the various additional participations he has made in his career. His latest production "Coming Closer To The Day" is the twenty-third production of his solo discography.
Rock and blues allow the youthfullness to cross the time barrier. Just judge the passion and energy that Robin Trower shows in this new album to be convinced. Robin is a guitar wizard, appropriately inspired by Jimi Hendrix and who in turn inspired Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Fripp, and a singer with a warm and comforting voice. From the very first notes of "Coming Closer To The Day" the listener is won over and knows that what he expects from this album will be fulfilled. Because you can't be disappointed with Robin Trower, the authenticity and generosity of his blues-rock music doesn't lie.
Robin Trower was marked by his time which saw the emergence of this rock from the origins marked by his filiation with rhythm and blues. Always faithful to his roots after so many years, he restores its body and spirit album after album. "Coming Closer To The Day" is once again a classy demonstration with short formats in perfect balance between lively riffs, reptilians mid-tempi ('Coming Closer To The Day','Lonesome Road') or more nervous ('Take Me with You','The Perfect Wrong'), melancholic ballads ('Little Girl Blue') with melodies carried by its rocky voice and guitar soli guided by grace. Robin Trower handles with ease this language that speaks to everyone and draws from rock with a touch of psychedelism ('Tell Me'), the rhythm and blues ('Truth or Lies','Tide of Confusion') and especially the blues.
Trower's blues, raw, simple, in a kind of original purity, which repeats each time this magic when you would think you could hear the same song for the thousandth time. Ghosts' and Little Girl Blue' are among those timeless monuments that reassure by their rustic and classic side and overwhelm by their accuracy and emotion. Two delicate frames driven to a serene rhythm that let you hear all the caresses of Robin's fingers on the handle of his Stratocaster, the quivering of his vibratos and the sharpness of his bends.
Robin Trower displays the artist's serenity in total freedom, hermetic to fashions and listening only to his heart and guts. Reflecting this posture "Coming Closer To The Day" is a very beautiful album of modern and traditional blues-rock, authentic and humble, which contributes to perpetuating a musical heritage that feeds on the passing of time.
