"Leverage puts an end to a ten-year silence with "Determinus" and offers a first-rate melodic metal with a high-flying technique."

Leverage had launched his career with three albums made in a melodic metal tinged with progressive. The fourth album promised to be decisive, such was the feeling in the review of "Circus Colossus". But there was a ten-year silence during which the band disappeared from the radar screens. Fortunately, the light is back with this "Determinus". For this return Leverage changed singer and guitarist but keeps its formula while forsaking symphonic arrangements in favor of guitars.

On this record, a spirit reigns that borrows as much from Rainbow as from Sonata Arctica or Stratovarius and this mix gives excellent results. 'Hand Of God', 'Burn Love Burn', 'Mephistocrate' and 'Rollerball' are really great. Kimmo's vocals are very effective, a cross between Dio and Tony Kakko, he moves with ease from a powerful tone to a melodic tone. The solos are brilliant and breathtaking with an epic side and a remarkable virtuosity. In accompaniment the keyboard brings a straight charm in the lineage of the great moments of Rainbow.

This vintage spirit works on tracks from the 80s. 'Afterworld's Disciple' close to Black Sabbath's 'Heaven & Hell' and 'Heaven's No Place For Us' are excellent moments cut from the best of hard melodic rock music with perfect virtuosity. Finally we will highlight some different tracks: 'Wind Of Morrigan' with its Celtic facet is a success with a pronounced progressive aspect; 'When We Were Young' is a ballad worthy of Journey and Europe with a pure and deep vocals and a nice FM side and 'Tiger' sees the band looking towards a stronger heavy power metal for a result that would not deny Accept.

Leverage does not give in the technical overbidding and never neglects the melody. The coherence of the whole is remarkable with keyboards and vocals perfectly highlighted. It will take more than one album for Leverage to make a name for itself because the competition is tough but with "Determinus", it is on the right track to get there.
