Contrary to what the listening to the first notes from "Overpower" might suggest, "Any Given Day" is not yet another band from the flourishing US metal scene, but it does perpetuate the long tradition of Germanic metal alongside "Heaven Shall Burn" and "Caliban" since it works above all in the metalcore register in its broadest sense.

With this third album announced as the heaviest and most melodic of their discography, the Germans' approach is similar to that of "Five Finger Death Punch" but also of "Bad Wolves". And like the latter popularized with its cover of "Zombie" by the Cranberries last year, Any Given Day's career took a decisive turn in 2013 following the successful cover of Rihanna's "Diamonds" (more than 11 million views on YouTube). The band is counting on this new delivery to definitively be recognized as one of the spearheads of the modern metal scene, helped in this by the passage under the influence of the metal giant Nuclear Blast.

And it is no surprise that "Star Over" opens the hostilities in a typically US metal that "5FDP" would not have denied, thanks to the varied, hot and raspy singing of Dennis Diehl, the strong point of the combo. 'Loveless' and 'Savior' continue this bludgeoning before on a track like 'Taking over me' with its electro elements, the Germans confirm their filiation with Slipknot.

With this opening and like the visual of the album, Any Given Day strike its listeners and confirms the preliminary announcement of an album that pushes the limits of heavy melodic music. But then, the band slows down the rhythm with 'Lonewolf' which would have been particularly successful and beneficial if it did not open the door to the two less inspired tracks on the album. Fortunately, the Germans are back on the accelerator with 'In Deafening Silence' to keep on going until the very "5FPD" final 'Never Surrender'.

Any Given Day comes back to us with a delivery of 11 tracks carved in an alloy that should certainly be at the top of the list of metal releases of the year and this, despite a small empty passage. As it is now supported by a strong label, we can easily imagine that the quintet will rise to the top of the metalcore charts and thus shade the precursors Heaven Shall Burn and other Caliban for whom he was still opening a short time ago.
