"Abbath signs with "Outstrider" an intense record in which he offers the best of his art with his epic black metal tinged with heavy."

Abbath is a character. One of those who do not leave indifferent, as the metal scene likes them. The former Immortal singer is expected for his second album a little over three years after a convincing first try. In the meantime his formation has evolved quite a bit with the departure of King Ov Hell for musical differences.
The question with "Outstrider" will be to know if Abbath can renew the performance of a first album of which some tracks seemed destined for Immortal. This new opus is short, less than 40 minutes. His illustration impresses, Abbath's face blending into a horrific Lovecraft-like setting. In terms of lyrics, the singer moves away from the legends of the far north for more mystical themes that delve into the heart of the human soul.
This gives a record that can be listened to in one go like a plunge into an icy universe. As soon as the acoustic introduction of 'Calm In Ire' is made, the journey is launched. Then the titles follow one another like rifle bullets. 'The Artifex','Harvest Pire','Land Of Kherm','Hecate' and 'Outstrider' go to the heart of the matter with a perfect mix of moods. There's a black force with an intensity that takes hold of your mind. But it is tempered by a heavy old school facet at the turn of riffs and devilish solos. There are also huge calm breaks that freeze the blood with an epic side worthy of Enslaved or Bathory. In the centre of this pyramid, Abbath sits enthroned and impresses with the nervous and nasal tone that has made his legend. Bathory's cover of 'Pace Till Death' completes the album perfectly, right in the spirit of the album with its epic side and intense cold strength.
With "Outstrider", Abbath confirms that he is to be counted on. He signs a strong and engaging album, cut in the best of a black metal tinged with heavy. He responds to Immortal in the best way possible, the fight is splendid between the two formations and we can only rejoice to have such amazing releases to listen to. - Official website
