"This band apart in the post-rock landscape, saves some codes and creates others with this never boring "From Voodoo o Zen", one of the major surprises of this busy new year. That's what I mean!"

If the Poles of Tides From Nebula use to distinguish themselves from other post-rock bands, it is thanks to a bold creative vision and a strong personality. Exploring different horizons of the genre, they redesign the outlines with each production. The latter is therefore eagerly awaited and the result is, let's not hide it any longer, stunning.
The electro-post-rock shift started with "Safehaven" now leads the trio to a very personal music. Modern keyboards mix with plaintive guitars and hypnotic rhythms at the opening on "Ghost Horses" while "The New Delta" concentrates all the originality of the band, halfway between Long Distance Calling and Daft Punk "Tron Legacy" period, an electro-pop reference also found on "Radionoize" in a more classical vein however. And the chemistry takes its toll just like this little melody sprinkling its crystalline notes on the heavy guitars of Maciej Karbowski.
But Tides From Nebula makes it even stronger with a "Dopamine" that bears its name perfectly. This hormone of pleasure is distilled to us without moderation by an electro post-techno riff like Pretty Lights on a background of melodic arpeggios and a wild rhythmic. There are still darker and more typical passages of the "conventional" post-rock as practiced by the Warsaw natives at the beginning of their career. Thus ,'Nothing to Fear and Nothing to Doubt' brings a darker touch with its progressive increases and additions of sound elements to each group of bars.
But it is not enough to electro keyboards on post rock to stand out from it, but it is also necessary to do it with intelligence and talent, as on the luminous eponymous title "From Voodoo To Zen" where Tomasz Stolowski's whirling drums are wrapped in a case of tablecloths that embark you in a sweet and thoughtful reverie. As for the closer "Eve White, Eve Black, Jane", it summarizes the combo's intelligent and original writing, composition and interpretation qualities at a throbbing tempo that a chubby bass carries towards a final of crystalline guitars.
The length of the album may frustrate the listener, but the intensity of the emotions that these 46 minutes bring from the very first listening will quickly make him forget it. Tides From Nebula confirms that they are a unique band in the post-rock landscape. He keeps some codes and creates others with an authenticity that makes them unique. Never boring, this "From Voodoo o Zen" is one of the major surprises of this busy new season, a mix of styles that creates an immediately recognizable sound, the hallmark of the greatest.
