It took Yogi Lang ten years to give a successor to "No Decoder", his first solo album. The first effort of the singer and keyboard player of RPWL was in the style all traced by his original band, which itself reverently followed the traces of a certain Pink Floyd. Will Yogi try here, with "A Way Out Of Here", to free himself from these strong influences?
The opener 'Move On' quickly answers the question: certainly not! The song is connoted by all the RPWL markers: Yogi's voice, very recognizable (Yogi Lang, the one who sings like David Gilmour), the Manfredian keyboards, the Floydian guitar, the slow mid tempo... Everything is done to reassure the listener who finds himself comfortably in familiar territory. Only the second title will muddle the tracks with its groovy bass, but it would have deserved more madness to really challenge.
As for the rest, "A Way Out Of Here" stays in a despairing conformism doubled by a guilty lack of inspiration: the 3/4 tracks ('Shine on Me', 'The Sound of The Ocean') are deadly boring, the lyrics are common ('Love Is All Around'), the instrumental 'Early Morning Light' smells like an unfinished jam session, and the solo of friend Wallner (RPWL guitarist, the one who plays - almost - like David Gilmour) struggles to enhance a 'Don't Confuse'....' that ends in a fade-out.
Even if the ensemble carefully keeps a melodic course underlined by a very correct production, (much) more would be needed to put this album in the records to be recommended. Despite its title, this opus doesn't manage to offer an honorable "way out" out of the RPWL universe. Disappointing!
