Two years ago, a new trio appeared on the melodic metal scene bringing together Magnus Karlsson, Ronnie Romero and Mike Terrana, a real dream team. The Ferrymen's eponymous album pleased, but did not receive the praise one would expect from the meeting of such a brotherhood. Lack of originality, melodies too easy ?
To begin, let's talk about the vocal characteristics of frontman. This will inevitably guide those who wonder about musical style correspondences. Romero sings like Dio. The similarity is sufficiently convincing that it can be argued that the Chilean singer could interpret the repertoire of Dio at ease. Thus, The Ferrymen for this first reason, evokes the epic metal of the deceased performer. Already nine years.... Another trademark of The Ferrymen comes from its composer: Karlsson marks all its participations with its very special seal. You get the impression you're listening to what the Allen/Lande and Michael Kiske duo offers at Place Vendome or when they're associated with Amanda Sommerville, but in a metal version.
If the Swedish's judicious keyboards sometimes temper the guitars, most of the time they are wiped off the map by the six-stringed player. Terrana bludge his drums - the power of his strike is monumental - and Romero sings as if his life depended on it. If you wanted epic metalmelodic, you are served!
Melodically speaking, it's also high level. Power ambitions do not in any way eliminate melodious inspirations. Everything is fine-tuned with talent and all the tracks have strong melodic lines. Of course, some pieces deserve more praise in this area than others, but this is probably just a matter of sensitivity. Let's bet that the exceptional 'Heartbeat' and 'No Matter How Hard We Fall' will be unanimously accepted.
This album is a kick in the ass. It will take you away in its maelstrom of stunningly powerful sounds and addictive melodies. Don't miss this ruby if you like metal-melodic bands. - Official website
