"Annihilator confirms with "Ballistic, Sadistic" its excellent shape. He throws a first-rate thrash with a high number of guitar fulgurances."

Annihilator's life has never been a long, quiet river. The Canadian group depends on Jeff Waters and he has always been able to overcome obstacles. Since "Suicide Society" he has taken over the microphone and has been able to get the machine going again with "For The Demented". For this 17th album "Balistic", Sadistic Waters found in his new wife an accomplice who officiates in the production. As for the guitarist, he takes care of the bass, guitar and vocals, leaving the drums to Fabio Alessandrini.

Waters' mood has often influenced the quality of Annihilator's records. One wonders what will happen when Waters is soothed. Obviously happiness hasn't softened him, on the contrary, because "Balistic, Sadistic" is a pure concentrate of thrash and rage. A real punch, it hardly leaves time to blow and is listened to in one go, showing no dead time or weakness.

The heart of the record are some direct tracks that highlight the thrash side of the album. With 'Armed To The Teeth', 'The Attitude', 'I Am Warfare', 'Out With The Garbage', 'Dressed Up For Evil' and 'The End Of The Lie', Annihilator offers killing titles that Slayer wouldn't deny. Waters tears out his vocal chords and on guitar, he enjoys himself with his mind-blowing riffs and solos. At this level it's even a total orgy as Waters shows a crazy technique worthy of a Van Halen.

But fortunately for our cervicals, the record is not only brutal. There are lulls that allow us to find a heavy and melodic Annihilator. 'Psycho Ward' is a beautiful slap with a simple and effective chorus and a wild solo. In the same spirit 'One Wrong Move' is convincing with a Megadeth type of vocals and a calm break with a melodic nuance. 'Lip Service' is a total success with a nervous vocals, a heavy thrash bass and a high quality epic instrumental part close to Iron Maiden.

With 'Balistic, Sadistic' Annihilator confirms his excellent shape by signing a record that is burning from beginning to end but without putting aside his technical and melodic qualities. With Jeff Waters so confident and self-assured, there's no doubt that the band has many more years ahead of him.
