After "Revolution" in 2015, "Liberation" in 2017, here comes "Transition" the third album of Art Nation, a Swedish melodic hard rock combo born from the ambition of its singer Alexander Strandell who dreams of making it (dixit) "one of the greatest rock/metal bands of all time". The combo is not there yet, but it is already well known in its country given the significant number of festivals and public events in which the quintet has recently performed, and the awards it has won in his region. The Swedish people are known to be pioneers in many fields, we also know that they phagocyte the small world of melodic hard rock, does they have once again the good instinct  directing like this their projectors on Art Nation?

The first two efforts of the combo had garnered some praise beyond the borders of Northern Europe. If "Revolution" and its very melodic hard rock had been rather successful, "Liberation" had taken a more melodic metal turn. "Transition" takes a symphonic-alternative melodic metal pop turn.

The combo's influences come from H.E.A.T. and Eclipse but also from Within Temptation and its followers Delain and The Dark Element. Alexander Strandell likes to mix genres while drawing on them their substantial marrow. Both vampire and Doctor Frankeistein musician of modern times, he keeps the best of each one and creates a protean concept that finds here an astonishing balance thanks in particular to his melodic genius.

Because about hits it's the parade. The first five tracks are simply perfect. Lovers of the above-mentioned combos will enjoy meeting them all in the same title. Apart from the brilliant and calmer "The Cure" where we discover Rebecca Hasko's magnificent voice, the other tracks are also more muscular than what the Swedish have been offering until now. Would they seek to make amends for their melodic approaches, which could be considered too mainstream?

Equipped with a production of absolute clarity, almost clinical, a power worthy of an adrenaline shot, of extraordinary melodies, this "Transition", which could disturb by its synthetic aspects due to the sound of keyboards, sometimes with an electronic tendency, and its propensity to turn sometimes towards pure pop, will nevertheless be one of the rock/hard rock/metal melodic albums of the year.

The progress of this band needs to be carefully monitored. If the radios come across this combo by chance, the story could well accelerate for Art Nation.

OTHER REVIEWS
THE OLD DEAD TREE: The End (2019)
GOTHIC METAL - This end is a kind of introspection, an examination of conscience where the band draws from its adventures its most beautiful testimony.
SLEEPING IN TRAFFIC: That Which Saves Us / That Which Destroys Us (2019)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - "That Which Save US/That Which Destroys US" are two EPs, two atmospheres, and an unbridled progressive metal outside the classifications.
