"Carcariass is finally back and signs with "Planet Chaos" a little jewel of death technique which does not neglect the melodies supported by a singer alternating the tones with class."

In three albums at the end of the 90s, Carcariass made a strong impression and established itself as the spearhead of progressive death metal in France. Then the band was very discreet, came out with the excellent "E-xtinction" before going back in the shadows. But the wait is finally over. After ten years of silence, the band comes back with "Planet Chaos", a long-awaited fifth album because, like Death or Obscura, the band knows how to put forward the melody and avoid sinking into a sterile technique. Moreover, it integrates a singer with Jérôme Thomas from Science Of Disorder.
To penetrate this record is to embark on an astral journey into another dimension. Carcariass always excels in the technical exercise but without ever being demonstrative. The result is six amazing instrumentals. 'High Speed Fury' is a beautiful orgy with breathtaking riffs and soli, an impressive rhythm section with a dizzying speed of execution. 'Apophis Impact', 'Dawn Of The Dead' and 'Dark Empire' are equally successful. Carved in the best of high tech death metal technique, they are reminiscent of the great moments of Death or Cynic. 'Saturn Vision' and 'Planet Chaos' have the look of a movie soundtrack with power ups and a superb aerial break on the second one for a fine and light result.
The sung tracks are just as excellent. Jérôme is the ideal recruit, he's perfect in growl but brings something more with a nice variation of tones. As far as death vocals are concerned, he is perfect on 'Solar Invasion', 'Battleground' or 'Genetic Conformity'. The vocals are ideal to accompany a breathtaking and mastered music. Sometimes the voice is deeper and martial with a robotic side worthy of Voivod or SUP and a pinch of wave ('Star Implosion', 'Lettre From The Trench'). Aerial and icy, these tracks are nice travels with a big touch of science fiction. In the same spirit, 'Psychotic Starship' is an impressive epic journey that evokes the universe of a Devin Townsend.
"Planet Chaos" is a rich and clever record, one of those you take the time to discover and enjoy long after its release. Carcariass is one of those bands that make themselves discreet, but that show us how precious they are every time they come back. - Official website
