Clint Lowery is known as the guitarist of the big American alternative heavy record selling machine Sevendust. Like a Mark Tremonti with whom he has a lot in common including Florida roots and endorsement at PRS, Lowery is a workaholic. When he doesn't play with Korn, Seether, Dark New Day, Sevendust, Still Rain, Hello Demons...meet skeletons or Call Me No One (non-exhaustive list), he gives himself a good time solo.
That's why we find him under his personal name for this record called "God Bless The Renegades". No matter what name he's under, it's the Lowery that we're talking about with this specificity that Clint plays all the instruments except the drums which is left to Wolfgang Van Halen's. As the only master on board, Clint lets express without restraint all the extent of his modern alternative rock/metal encouraged by Michael "Elvis" Baskette in the production. The beginning of the album is ideal with a jewel of atmosphere and alternative metal with a chorus that hits the bull's eye from the very first listening and a succession of three tracks with melodic qualities completed by good riff ideas whose dosage reaches its paroxysm in the irresistible 'Alive'.
Then the album enters its cruising rhythm with compositions where the mid-tempo format is king ('What's The Matter', 'You Go First', 'Allowed To Run' and even pop with 'Do We Fear God'). The saturations are less sharp and the energy more contained, the melodies less complex and the choruses more consensual. We're globally in the register of what Sevendust usually produces with jumps in the construction and the desire to surprise with notably the good 'She's Free' which awakens a less punchy end of the record.
With tracks never exceeding four minutes for a total duration of a little more than forty minutes, "God Bless The Renegades" unfolds a music at a sustained rhythm and doesn't leave time for lassitude to settle down. For those who are looking for a softer alternative to Alter Bridge and even Mark Tremonti's solo work, this Clint Lowery record keeps all its promises. - Official website
