"While it will undoubtedly be the last studio record of Huey Lewis & The News, "Weather" condenses all the qualities of the Californian legend for a finale in apotheosis."

If the release of a Huey Lewis & The News album is always an event, especially in the United States, the release of "Weather" is really specific. Not only does this opus come ten years after its predecessor ("Soulville" - 2010) but above all, it follows the announcement of the emblematic singer's illness which suffers from Ménière's syndrome. In non-medical terms, Huey Lewis has to cope with deafness attacks that can last several weeks and now prevent him from scheduling any concerts. Diagnosed in 2018, this handicap interrupted a composition process that had begun in 2012. This explains why "Weather" is composed of only seven tracks, the band having preferred to release their latest compositions in this reduced format rather than see them disappear or wait for an improbable healing.
This is the tenth album in 40 years, knowing that two of its predecessors were covers. As much to say that Huey Lewis & The News have never been stakhanovists of composition. On the other hand, Californians have always compensated by a nice quality of writing and if the band's style is recognizable among a thousand, it gathers a great variety of sounds, mixing rock, soul, pop, R&B, country or reggae. "Weather" is no exception to the rule, with a contagious good mood and a laid-back attitude that has never abandoned the band since its beginnings.
Huey Lewis & The News is coolness made rock! With its smooth brass, 'While We're Young' offers a sunny mid-tempo and encouragement to enjoy life. Classy and fluffy, it has a catchy chorus and starts the party off on the right foot. The sequel is a digest of the US band's finely honed US pop-rock know-how. We go from the single 'Her Love Is Killin' Me' with its haunting harmonica and unstoppable chorus, to the typical US ballad 'I Am There For You' with its delicate melancholy, then to a soul groove 'Hurry Back Baby' with its perfect harmony between brass, keyboards and guitars. 'Remind Me Why I Love You Again' mixes rock and R&B with a funky base, then 'Pretty Girls Everywhere' reminds us that Lewis & Co. have always had a soft spot for old school doowop before the country ballad 'One Of The Boys', originally written for Willy Nelson, ended it all.
If the fears that "Weather" would be the final studio testimony of Huey Lewis & The News were confirmed, this opus would turn out to be a finale in apotheosis since it condenses all the qualities of the legendary Californian band. Cheerful, energetic, with a fearsome and unstoppable precision, it won't be absent from the discotheques of the fans of the best US rock. - Official website
