Alestorm's pirates are on the road to success as their latest "No Grave But The Sea" has seen them gain further popularity. The English band confirms its place at the top of the metal ladder with their pure crazy folk metal pirate tinged with deliciously stupid humour in a hillbilly spirit. It may sound heavy and childish but there are some breathtaking moments of bravery on the program.
There are the typical titles of the band's style, the ones you expect in the form of anthems in the making. The recipe works with 'Treasure Chest Pary Quest, Call Of The Waves' as well as 'Pirate Metal Drining Crew' and 'Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship'. . The rocky vocals of Bowes work wonders and the synthesizers bring the craziness we love. The choruses are perfect and we appreciate the power with strong riffs tinged with thrash. The zombie song sees Patty Gurdy's viola da gamba bring a folk side. Her very soft voice illuminates an unstoppable track with a catchy chorus.
Sometimes, Alestorm finds a more direct side in an irresistible Celtic punk spirit. 'Shit Boat' on one minute goes straight ahead in a spirit that doesn't take itself seriously, like 'Fannybaws' and 'Chomp Chomp' . The synth takes up a large part of the music and it's all very catchy. On the second track, Vreth from 'Finntroll’ brings a Death Metal touch that wickedly messes up your hair.
In this very rich record, we'll bring out two separate tracks. ''Tortuga'' stands out with its omnipresent kitsch synths, a good pop side and a rap chorus carried by Captain Yarrface for a crazy result. ' Wooden Leg Pt 2 (The Woodering)' is the centerpiece. Over more than 8 minutes, it's an epic and cinematic journey, efficiently alternating symphonic passages, strong Death aspects, a crazy folk aspect with the synth in the spotlight and intense speed moments. With 'Henry Martin', Alestorm reconnects with its folk roots.
Alestorm continues his journey in a beautiful way and offers a successful record. The trip aboard this pirate ship is pleasant and should delight fans who will be looking forward to a live performance. - Official website
