Wolfheart, melodic death band, proposed in 2018 a "Constellation Of The Black Light", which seemed to lack risk taking or audacity. Then the band revealed its potential during its performances alongside Omnium Gatherum. In its works, the group builds tracks with misty atmospheres and emotion on the surface. This is still the case with ''Wolves Of Karelia'', even if Vagelis Karzis replaced Mika Lammassaari on guitar.

The title "Karelia Wolves" (a province wedged between Finland and Russia) is full of meaning: a reference to the wolves who populate these snowy territories, an animal fable evoking the men who fought in this immaculate whiteness. The record refers to the fights between Finland and Russia for the domination of the province.

The band has a power and intensity that takes to the throat ('Hail of Steel') close to Insomnium or Omnium Gatherum. He also approaches Emperor's black metal ('Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise') or Orakle's compositions ('Tourments & Perdition'). Moreover, as with Omnium Gatherum, the tracks sometimes seem almost classical and full of mastery ('Born From Fire') when the solitary guitars complete the melody or highlight the compositions. The songs are heavy ('The Hammer') or almost evanescent and populated with frightening figures ('Arrows of Chaos'). The tracks go through landscapes with multiple variations ('Arrows of Chaos' or 'Ashes'), through moments where only a bare six-string resounds ('Eye of the Storm'), through grandiloquent symphonic introductions ('Horizon on Fire') or through a two-faced vocals, between sweetness and hell ('Hail Of Steel').

"Wolves of Karelia" is a very successful album in which Wolfheart imposes his trademark. It prefigures his induction into the genre's reference rank... But before that, follow in the footsteps of a pack of wolves and find refuge in their furs.  Wolfheart reminds us  that man is a wolf for man, a ruthless and bloodthirsty beast.
